Prevention

There are some very simple was to prevent hookworm infection in the developing world. Here are some ways:
 

• Get rid and dispose of human feces in a sanitary way so they don’t contaminate the soil

• Wear covered footwear in areas where the disease is known to be endemic. 

• Wash hands after going to the toilet and before handling or eating food. 

• Use safe drinking water and be sure to prepare food using clean preparation processes.


• Keep animals (cattle, cows, dogs, pets) out of areas used for sleeping and eating. 

• Avoid close contact with animals.

• Plan on deworming children if necessary or as recommended by a healthcare practitioner.

In prime conditions, Hookworm larvae are capable of penetrating children’s skin within a few seconds.
